Heron Academy

Heron Academy, formerly known as The Michael Tippett School, is a special needs secondary school located on Heron Road, Herne Hill, London. It caters to students aged 11 to 19 with severe learning difficulties, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and profound multiple learning disabilities (PMLD). The school building was designed by Marks Barfield Architects and completed in 2008 as part of the Building Schools for the Future programme, making it the first special needs school in the UK completed under this initiative. Heron Academy is committed to providing a secure, caring, and supportive environment where pupils are valued and challenged to reach their full potential. The curriculum emphasizes lifelong learning and creativity, supported by specialist technology and community-based learning experiences. The school is part of the London South East Academies Trust since converting to academy status in February 2023.
