"Dont go here"

My experience at Avonbourne School has not been good. The overall atmosphere feels harsh, and many of the staff come across as rude or dismissive. They rarely listen to students unless something very serious has happened in ur life or outside of school, which makes it hard to feel supported day to day.

The rules are also extremely strict to the point of being unfair. For example, students can be punished for very small things, like losing a piece of paper called a “reach card.” In some cases, this even means being kept in school until 5pm, which feels unreasonable. getting screamed at for stuff that isent ur fault .

Some teachers, such as Miss Tanner, often treat students poorly and don’t give them a fair chance to explain themselves she dosent care about ur wellbeing and is never nice. This creates a negative learning environment where students feel punished rather than encouraged.

Overall, I wouldn’t recommend this school. It doesn’t feel like a place that values or respects its students, and I think there are better options out there.

"Shit school"

If i could give it a zero i could, i was put into so many bad mental states because of this school it is absolute bollocks they put on acts infront of people coming in to view the school to seem like its a safe nice place to send your child. it is not. they couldn’t care less about you or your education they just want control. and if you dont act like a robot obeying everything they say or ask u to do they will try punish you for no reason a few teachers are alright but most are miserable gits who definitely hate children.

"Avonbourne issuch a bad school."

I took my daughter out of school because the teachers and students were horrible. Teachers act if no one else matters but them, and put her in the incorrect sets multiple times. She learned nothing at this school and her mental health got worse from the horrible girls at the school. The team spoke to her and other students Atrociously. They couldnt give a single care in the world that she was getting bullied. Not a good school. Should get closed down.

"Sorry for the use of foul language but"

This school is like a used condom you find on the side of the road.
There is alot of bullying and the most punishment people get is a day in iso and a finger wag from a teacher.
They care more about grades than the mental health of students and will gladly pile on detentions if you can't focus on the homework due to personal or mental issues.
Some of the teachers are the most friendly and interesting people I have ever met but a majority of them are just robots wearing skins suits making sure you stick in line.
The only improvement I've seen in all my years there was the food and it only improved slightly.
The selection of GCSEs options were crap and limited plus they make you pick history and geography, if you compare this to other schools you'll find that they easily do a better job, and for the subjects you choose you don't get many lessons in them and spend most of your time being made to sit through English, science and math lessons and they are only enjoyable if your in a class with friends or have a good teacher.
The school practically licks the feet of all the set 1 students and give them the most rewards and opportunities to do things, you can be a good person and suck at school work and they'll see you as a stain they can't get rid of till you leave.
If you go here I'm sorry and hope you can enjoy the kool aid and have a decent time here in blissful ignorance.

"Untrained, not sen aware or inclusive on any level"

The Human resources and team here are not trained in how to support people with sen neeeds. There is a lack of empath for pupils and those working here too as apprentices. I would not recommend this place to my worst energy. There was bullying by management , unprofessional and also lack of communication. They do not want to offer training or support especially to those struggling, what sort of people do that ? They have a disposable view of apprentices here.

"avonbournes lack of care for neurodivergent kids"

just a pre warning i havent been here in two years so things could’ve changed but i doubt they have.

avonbourne is an absolute shit hole and does nothing to support their neurodivergent students specifically when undiagnosed/masking.

im autistic and although i didnt know it at the time all they gave me was an hour elsa lesson every week and a pass so that i could leave class 5 minutes early.

but even before that, it took my mum 3 years of constant emails and phonecalls just to be put on a special educational needs register as soon as my attendance was lowering (i was going in once or twice a week)

my head of year’s exact words were “she looks like she’s fine, i dont see a problem” even when i was throwing up, having panic attacks, shutdowns and dissociating even at the THOUGHT of going there. not only that, i was starving myself for days because i hated eating at school and when i got home i had to do homework which took me hours due to the stress of getting a detention and my shit attention span then take a shower and by the time i was finished i had to go to bed since i was so tired. this went on for ages & the only time i got breaks was summer hols & during covid.

this school gave me bucket loads of trauma from their restrictive rules and teachers. even when i went to an sen school i was getting literal nightmares of bring forced back and being scared shitless of teachers as i thought they would treat me like they did at avonbourne as soon as i saw them act a little bit like them (shouting, aggressive & intimidating). this probably sounds ridiculous and i thought it was to as i never heard of anyone about school trauma i was embarrassed and i still am.

anyways im being home schooled now, i have a life mentor and most importantly a cat who makes me happy :)

"AVOID "

If you like to have any form of communication from anyone you have to fight and fight. Some reception staff are rude, like interupting and hanging up on people. Kids mental health being affected by a few members teaching staff not having an ounce of compassion. Quick enough to call when your kids off school dropping their stats down but if you have a problem be ready to call 4 times a day and still get ignored.

"Excellent School with Wonderful Staff"

We've been really impressed with the school's commitment to our daughter's education. The facilities are top-notch and the values of United Learning are evident in everything she does. I've seen her grow in confidence and we're so grateful for that.

"Very impressed "

Really impressed with the school. My Daughter’s confidence has grown and most, not all, of the teacher’s are truly interested in the children’s learning and development. Throughout Covid the staff worked round the clock to prepare make the changes to online lessons.
Yea f course things could be better, the indoor environment is dated and it is hot in summer. The school are continuously looking at ways to improve.

"I hate it there. "

You have to be silent during break and lunch through the corridors, you're not allowed to go to the toilet outside of break even if it's an emergency, and if you're seen outside of your lesson you get a detention. For earrings you have to wear a plain silver or gold stud, no small hearts or shapes and you have to "treat teachers like platinum" when the teachers treat you like a piece of crap. All they do is pick up on what you're doing wrong, but not what you're doing right. This school is more like a prison that hates individuality, than a school.

"Crap. "

It’s generally just a shite school. The system is so fucking corrupted that I barely even attend classes. I have ended up with over 30 inclusions for crap reasons, such as, talking even if everyone else was talking, arguing over a comment a teacher made even if it was highly offensive to some students (right of speech pretty much at stripped away) not ‘slanting’ or remaining in ‘natural state’. They pretty much turned it into a prison.

"Mixed Feelings about Our Time at Avonbourne"

We moved our daughter to Avonbourne a few years ago, hoping for a better education. While the school's values and facilities are great, we've sometimes found the communication between teachers and parents to be lacking. Our daughter has improved academically, but we wish we'd seen more progress in other areas.
