"student who goes there"

this school is genuinely awful no teachers understand you and they all blame it on us being ‘teenagers’ because apparently ‘that’s what teenagers are like’ when in reality there is kids who genuinely struggle and it’s not fair at all and the teachers never listen to the students they take the teachers side, the teachers can wear anything they want and when it comes to students it’s apparently distracting when there is literally teachers with bright coloured nails and some pe teachers have tattoos everywhere which i think is distracting personally and it’s not a fair school at all which explains the rating. most parents don’t recommend this school either because its genuinely a disgusting school they don’t do anything to help you unless you have proven special needs and i totally understand that they need help but there are some children who go there that need support too. most teachers are absolutely vile and the toliet rule is disgusting. you can’t go without a pass which is not good at all. it also explains why there’s always kids in reset for ‘truancy’ because they HAD to walk out due to genuinely needing the toliet. its an awful school i would not recommend sending your children here at all.

"THIS SCHOOL IS SEXIST AND SUPPORTS SEXUAL HARASSMENT!!!"

This school preaches equality and a 'safe space' when it's all false protesting. One occasion for example; for the past two weeks or so my friend was being sexually harassed by a boy in our year. When said friend defended herself she was then put in reset and further punished by exclusion. The teachers then said 'Why didn't you come to school with these incidents' though if she did nothing would've been done about it, maybe a light warning but nothing extreme. Multiple witnesses have come forward about the situation saying my friend was the victim and she shouldn't have been punished yet nothing else has been done. Another example is the ban of skirts and shorts for girls as they were seen as 'distracting'. After the term when we came back all in trousers the teachers then went on to say 'we look more professional as an academy now your skirts aren't half way up your arses' I was personally appalled by this statement! When shorts got banned the were also seen as 'distracting and inappropriate' whilst it was 40°+ outside. I was also personally victimised due to me having sensory issues, I am in the process of being tested/diagnosed for autism and i have major sensory issues so after around two years of me wearing leggings and being approved to have worn them they say they're 'inappropriate' as they're 'too tight'. I was excluded for refusing to change them and once i went back they were fine. Another reason this is an awful school is the fact teachers physically touch the children and hold them back. The doors to reset are locked and only teachers can open them with their ID cards and i saw two students today having panic attacks due to being locked in and the teachers physically held them back from getting through the doors. When i confronted them about it they said 'they were trained to do so' and 'it was for safe guarding reasons'. Yet another example of the sexism throughout the academy is the fact they give much lighter punishment to the boys than girls, boy was bullying, no consequence... girls were sticking up for themselves during an outside school matter (no violence involved), both punished. Boy asleep during reset, 'it shuts him up', girl asleep in reset, 'head off the desk or you will be suspended'. There have been so many students who struggle to attend school as it is who have been placed in reset for one reason or another missing out on education they're already lacking. There are so many more examples i could use however i will not. Netherwood academy is definitely one of, if not the worst school you could send your child to.

"A great all-round experience for our daughter"

We are really pleased with the all-round experience Netherwood has provided for our daughter so far. The school day is well-structured, the teachers are knowledgeable and enthusiastic, and the facilities are modern and well-maintained. We've been impressed by the range of extracurricular activities on offer and the support the school provides for students with additional needs. We feel confident that our daughter is receiving a great education at Netherwood and we're excited to see her continue to thrive here.

"Excellent school with a great team of teachers!"

We are so happy with the progress our son has made since joining Netherwood Academy. The facilities are excellent and the teachers are always willing to listen and help. The values of scholarship, curiosity, tenacity, responsibility and respect are clearly embedded in the school and we feel reassured that our son is in a safe and supportive environment. We would highly recommend Netherwood to anyone considering a secondary school for their child.

"good for sports "

teachers are quite understanding but some seem to be ignorant to certain people. kids that sit in the middle are forgotten about its either about the lowest or the highest of the bunch. behavioural system use to be simple but now its complicated and overthought. the effort is there but the school is just a sports school at the end of the day. good if ur good at football

"Good school, but could improve in some areas"

My son had a generally positive experience at Netherwood, but there were a few areas where the school could improve. The facilities are good, but I felt that the school could do more to support students with special educational needs. The teachers were mostly enthusiastic and knowledgeable, but sometimes communication with parents could be better. Overall, I think Netherwood is a good school, but it could benefit from a bit more focus on supporting students with additional needs.

"I'm satisfied with this school"

I've had children at Netherwood Academy for the past 2 years.

Firstly the positives :
The children enjoyed the lessons, the teaching staff were kind and understanding, the building is lovely, and communication with the school is good.

A few minor negatives to mention :
There were a few issues relating to bullying which did take a while to be resolved, the provisions for lunches were not always adequate, and there have been a few technical hitches getting my daughter connected to the online system for homework etc. since she was a late starter.

Generally speaking, Netherwood doesn't have the best reputation and it ranks quite poorly in Ofsted reports, so I was reluctant to send my children there initially, however it wasn't as bad as I anticipated. My daughter, who started in Year 9, was actually pleasantly surprised that she really liked the lessons and the teaching staff, and was able to make some close friends quite quickly.

My son in Year 8 is actually quite eager to return to school.

I'm reluctantly de-registering the children in light of concerns regarding Covid-19, but that's not a reflection on the school. I hope to re-register my children at this school once the pandemic isn't as severe.
