Main difficulty: During our daughter’s year at ProEd Global School, our main concerns were safeguarding, transparency and communication.

There were repeated physical incidents involving other students. In one serious incident during an after-school activity, another student prevented our daughter from leaving the classroom to seek help, and the sliding classroom door struck her head.

The school initially confirmed in writing that the other student acknowledged playing a part in the incident and that the door had made contact with our daughter’s head.

I requested access to the CCTV footage from the beginning. After the school reviewed it internally, its interpretation changed, but I was refused the opportunity to view the footage myself. I was therefore unable to verify the basis for the school’s revised conclusion.

When I continued asking questions, I was informed that the school would not revisit its interpretation and considered the matter closed. Although I was advised to use the formal complaints procedure, obtaining the necessary information required repeated follow-up.

We were also disappointed academically. Parents had very limited visibility into daily learning, homework was minimal, and we did not see the expected progress from the separately paid English support programme despite paying for it throughout the year.

By the end of the school year, our daughter had lost much of her confidence and motivation to attend school. Based on our family’s experience, we would not choose this school again.
Area: Behaviour support, Communication, Leadership
Example: During one after-school activity, another student prevented my daughter from leaving the classroom to seek help, and the sliding classroom door was closed onto her head. Following the school’s initial investigation, I was informed in writing that the other student had acknowledged playing a part in the incident and that the door had made contact with my daughter’s head.

The school’s position later changed. I therefore asked to view the CCTV footage to understand why the conclusions had changed. My request was refused, and I was not allowed to see the footage on which the school’s revised interpretation was based.
What could improve: The school should respond to safeguarding concerns with greater transparency, provide parents with clear access to the formal complaints process, and communicate promptly when its conclusions or paid services change. Academic progress and English support should also be measured and explained clearly to parents.
Impact on my child: Confidence, Enjoyment, Academic progress, Stress/anxiety, Behavioural changes. Over the school year, my daughter gradually lost confidence in adults at school, motivation to learn and enjoyment of attending. She became increasingly anxious about school and eventually began saying that she did not want to go.
School responsiveness: Limited or unclear response
Inclusion support: Not applicable
Summary: Serious safeguarding concerns and disappointing transparency
