Incredible, the staff are too kind, especially the receptionists and medical staff, some students can be a pain, however I made many friends here, my father thinks otherwise, however I disagree because I think that this is a lovely school, definitely recommend.

Absoloutely abysmal school, I was in maths class and the teacher comes, tells someone to stop drinking in class, then scratches them, not the only example of this among the school, but one of which I was there to witness myself

thank god I’m done with that school, it was such a bad school the way they dealt with my mental health. They claim they have a “mental health team and support” but if you go up and speak about your mental health they do not care and send you back to lesson. Would not recommend, such a strict school, they care more about uniform and their reputation than the actual students

The teachers are so selfish, I was crying in the toilets as a teacher blamed me for something I had not done then that same teacher unlocked the toilet door as I explicitly said not to and grabbed me by my arms and dragged me to my head of years office. Then my head of year then carried on to scream and shout at me for skipping my lesson while I had tears streaming down my face. Not all teachers are like this but the majority of them are absolutely disgraceful. The students aren’t any better. I am a girl of colour and everyday I went into the school and boys from higher years shouted and screamed the n word at me, I then told their head of year and he was no help as he told me to get out of his sight before he puts me in quantum (isolation). The actual building itself isn’t all bad, it is very spacious but most of the places in the school are restricted. By the way I got permanently excluded because I was in the toilets and they are stalls. Some girls in the stall next to me were blowing vape smoke into my stall but I only noticed the smell. I went out because I had asthma and I was coughing on the smoke. I opened the door to lots of slt teachers waiting for me. Obviously the girls had been blowing smoke into my cubicle so when I opened it, a big cloud of fruity flavours came out behind me. Then, my head of year grabbed my bag off my shoulders and searched it. I do not vape so they didn’t find anything unusual but apparently I had ‘flushed it down the toilet’ but I argued my case saying it wouldn’t flush and it would break the pipes but he said he heard it go. My parents were furious but after I got my options to choose my school, I got accepted into my first option and the woman on the phone said it was a bittersweet since burnside is a very bad school. You have to wait outside the block for the toilet you can’t even enter inside the block to wait for the toilet no matter how cold it is and only 6 people can be in a toilet Que this is ridiculous not gonna lie

Poor behaviour, lack of support for students with SEMH, a regime with no grey areas. This headteacher knows how to talk the talk so gets away with things looking good on the surface.

I just started at this school for a month now. Sometimes it's alright, sometimes it's horrible. Most of the teachers are kind and helpful, but some are just straight up too strict and annoying. The students there are an absolute nightmare. They vape, do drugs, and some are even racist. There has been quite a few fights that have happened over the years that I've heard of. If you are put in classes with really loud and immoral students who don't respect their teachers, then it would be impossible for you to get any work done. I barely learn anything in some lessons because the students are so irritable. For just the school, there is a lot of rules. Definitely must be because the students are not following rules appropriately. The toilets are door-less which I find very uncomfortable and unsettling as the teachers could look in, and they judge you openly if you are fixing your hair or whatever in the mirror. The girls take forever in the toilet, so you might not get to use the toilet during break at all. They won't allow toilet breaks after the bell rings. You are not allowed to go to the toilet unless you've got a toilet pass, meaning you need to have a medical condition to go. Phones are not allowed once you enter school gates. You need to keep your phones in bags at all time. If you are caught, your phone will be taken away and your parents will have to come collect it. I don't like most of the rules there. Some I can justify and accept, but most of them is just too strict. In summary, there are better schools out there. If you have the money, send your kids to private school. Burnside is for not so fortunate kids with an acceptable education.

Horrible. Please don’t send your child to this. There’s lots of racism and exclusion and lots of inappropriate behaviour. Even telling a certain adult doesnt solve anything and im talking from a student view myself. There’s lack of choices in the area, like compared to my new school there is ton of different options while its limited here. Teachers don't try hard enough and really it was just a disaster

This school is ran by someone who claims to have students best interests at heart, but who has lost countless excellent staff members through his own ignorance, thoughtlessness and the fact he'd rather spend money on fairy lights for open evenings, new signs and new minibuses that staff. Departments are understaffed, over worked and children have no room to develop their own sense of self and uniqueness due to endless rules about haircuts, nail varnish and a number of other things. He sends others to do his dirty work and most of them aren't much better. They no longer have a designated safeguarding department or school mentors, they can't replace staff and can't even provide enough statutory care for students with SEN because of this. He even cancelled last years school performance of Frozen out of pure spite because the member of staff was leaving at the end of the summer, despite the amount of hard work students had put in. They do however have around 15 members of senior leadership who all have personalised jackets and umbrellas. The absolute key to a good school.

This is a real shame as the young people who attend this school are full of personality, often vulnerable and deserve so much better, as do a lot of the teachers.

Bad teacher all around who lie about situations and are of no support, this is not all teachers but there are many who are terrible. Bad communication between teachers, students and parents.

I will never come back to this school again. It is outrageous. The food is very expensive and there are fights every month such as physical, rap battles, and cock fights. We asked them where their chickens were but they said "we aren't fighting with chickens". I also once saw another class mate watching porn on the computers. Outrageous

Absolutely despicable. The members of staff at this school are more concerned about the clothes you wear than what you learn. During this pandemic, they've been more bothered that people take their coats off before entering a building (causing mass crowding), than them having masks on. Not only this, but the head teacher is a complete moron, and has started to convert all the toilets into doorless ones! Students feel as though they are locked in some sort of prison.A very poor secondary school indeed, with a most dreadful attitude from both the teaching staff and students alike. The attitude towards supply tutors is also abysmal by both these parties. A most unwelcoming school with appalling behaviour. I certainly would not send my children to this school. The last time I worked there on supply, I was assaulted. The school should be closed down.

This js an absolute joke of a school no respect for students send them somewhere else that will be your best option

1. They have thick rules like they take ur phone off u even if ur 2 steps from the exit and give u quantum if u refuse, talk abt healthy eating every chance they get but also u can't eat if u having detention like make it make sense, if ur seen in a big group u get detention (coz they think there's a fight like get a grip) and basically just detention for anything you do
2. Most teachers r suspected paedophiles and should be given mental health tests coz atleast 6 that I know of defo have anger issues. Plus they ship students together like just coz u cant get a love life don't mean u can give us advice this ain't love island
3. There was an assembly saying if ur caught vaping outside of school (even without ur uniform on) then they'll evict ur family like calm it down
4. Teachers can take anything off u permanently that they think is 'distracting' even money like what if that was my bus fair or money for my homeless parents like eh
5. Y8 head of year slapped a kid in the face and got no consequences at all

Thats just some things, there's wayyyyy more. I'm saving ur time, money and ur child's innocence in saying this, don't send ur kids to that lock-up called school
