About Abbey School & Nursery

Abbey School & Nursery is proudly small but mighty: a warm, ambitious and inclusive independent school where children are known as individuals, encouraged to aim high and given the support and confidence to flourish.

From Nursery through to Year 6, children benefit from an environment where they are known and valued as individuals. In the School, class sizes are firmly capped at 16, enabling teachers to know their pupils exceptionally well and provide high levels of individual attention. Across Nursery and School, children benefit from experienced practitioners, specialist teaching and a rich curriculum that extends far beyond the classroom.

From swimming, sport and music to performance, outdoor learning and leadership opportunities, children are encouraged to discover what they enjoy, develop their talents and have the confidence to try something new.

At the heart of Abbey are our three values: Respect, Resilience and Responsibility. These shape not only what children achieve, but the young people they become. We want our pupils to be curious and capable learners, but also kind, confident and increasingly independent individuals who are ready for the opportunities and challenges ahead.

Our Nursery and School share the same ethos, giving children the opportunity to enjoy a genuinely seamless educational journey. Children become familiar with the people, routines and environment of school long before their first day in Reception, helping them make that important transition with confidence.

We are proud to be an inclusive community. Children learn in different ways, develop at different rates and bring different strengths. Our size enables us to respond to the child in front of us: providing challenge where a pupil is ready to fly, support where something is more difficult, and celebrating progress in all its forms.

Abbey also offers Academic and Swimming Scholarships, recognising children with particular strengths and potential and providing opportunities for them to develop their talents further. Families interested in finding out more about scholarships, admissions, fees and life at Abbey can explore the information available on the school website.

Ultimately, we believe children learn best when they are happy, secure, challenged and truly known. At Abbey, no child is simply one of a crowd.

Families are warmly invited to visit Abbey School & Nursery, meet our staff and pupils and experience the school for themselves. Private tours can be arranged throughout the year, alongside our advertised open events.
