Ysgol Gymraeg Gwynllyw

Ysgol Gymraeg Gwynllyw is a Welsh-medium all-age school located in Trevethin, Pontypool, Torfaen, Wales. Originally founded in 1988 as the first Welsh-medium school in the former Gwent area, it was initially housed in a smaller building before moving to its current premises, formerly Trevethin Comprehensive School. The school underwent a significant transformation in 2022, extending its age range from 11-18 to 3-19 years, becoming the first all-age Welsh-medium school in South East Wales. This expansion included a new two-story primary building with 210 places and a childcare facility for 40 children. The school offers full immersion in Welsh language education, aiming to develop fluency and native-level proficiency among students who mostly come from English-speaking homes across multiple counties including Torfaen, Blaenau Gwent, Monmouthshire, and Newport. It is known for its strong cultural emphasis on Welsh identity, language, and community values. Facilities are modern and designed to support contemporary primary education with flexible learning spaces and access to outdoor play areas. The school is recognized as one of the fastest growing Welsh-medium schools in Wales.
