Greenfield Special School

Greenfield Special School is a maintained special school located on Duffryn Road, Pentrebach, on the southern outskirts of Merthyr Tydfil. It serves pupils aged 3 to 19 years who have severe learning difficulties, profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD), autistic spectrum disorder (ASD), and social, emotional, and mental health needs (SEMH). The school operates across three adjacent sites, including dedicated areas for primary and secondary aged pupils and classrooms integrated within a children's centre. It is the only special school maintained by the Merthyr Tydfil local authority. The school is recognized for providing a safe, nurturing, and caring environment where pupils benefit from strong, consistent relationships with staff who understand their individual needs, traumas, and personal stories. The school emphasizes emotional development, self-esteem, and realistic outcomes tailored to each pupil's well-being. Staff well-being and a person-centred approach are also key features of the school's ethos.
