The only way to keep up the marking workload from this school is to work until 8pm each night weekdays and working at the weekends. Teachers are spoken down to by the SLT team and there is no connection. Students don't even recognise some of the SLT as they just sit in their office all day. New Teachers to the school come in excited and bubbly and that soon disappears due to the… *(Nov 2023)* - **1/5** — Good grades are not a reflection of the school.: Don’t go there. It is only a good school in name only. The grades that children can be achieved anywhere since it is not the teaching that gets them there but their own hard work and outside tutoring. The best teachers have left, leaving those who care little. They just want an easy life and set a lot of work to do at home without teaching and then just testing the children every 2 weeks. If they don’t perform well, then the advise is - to do better. Not caring or supportive in any way. Find a h… *(Jul 2023)* - **2/5** — Traumatic: Girls' school trauma, not worth the therapy fees *(Jul 2023)* - **1/5** — Sucks ass: My daughter attends this school and has had horrific bullying simply for being ginger. She has used barking as a method of deterring these bulllies however, this has lead to further bullying. Please work on staff and student discipline. *(Apr 2023)* - **3/5** — outstanding academics but mental health support needs improvement: it’s okay. there are unrealistic standards for grades placed here as if we will pass every test but the school itself in terms of academics alone is great! there are some great teachers in the school who really care about our education but very few about mental health. if you have an existing, professionally-diagnosed mental health condition i don’t think you should come here, your noggin will suffer. when i was in year 7 it wouldn’t go a single lesson in some forms that someone wouldnt break do… *(Mar 2023)* - **1/5** — Labeling of Students: The teachers here label certain groups of students as "bad crowds." I feel uncomfortable with this labeling, students shouldn't be named like this. They aren't bad they just make bad choices. The generalization of students is ridiculous just because your friend made one bad decision doesn't mean your hanging with the wrong crowd. I think teachers should think before they use these demoralizing terms to describe students. Just because a student doesn't act in the right manner it doesn't give you … *(Mar 2023)* - **1/5** — My true opinion of this school: This school stresses students out!For example,in the first term they are suddenly forced to read or else you get detention! They’re good in studies but very stingy with notebooks and paper ! There is a teacher who screamed at someone in the class for leaving one line!!! They DONT care about your mental well-being!!! They add so much hw (=stress) ! In the first term they are given thousands of tests to do, this is tooo overwhelming! *(Feb 2023)* - **4/5** — what to say: It’s a great school to learn in, I have developed a lot of skills and learnt a lot of things. However, there are many things prioritised that should definitely not be e.g. jewellery and skirt length. I feel that some teachers are very qualified, enjoy teaching and really do want to help but a few don’t care for it and just need you to do well and almost don’t enjoy teaching. It’s a great campus with good timings and accessibility but the uniforms, food etc. are very overpriced and many students … *(Oct 2022)* - **2/5** — Please don’t go here if you want to stay happy.: This school is preparing girls for a world where it’s there fault because their skirts weren’t below the knee, their socks didn’t cover their ankles, their shoulders were showing. Its encouraging backward beliefs, making sure male teachers don’t get distracted. Only girls is such an artificial environment, not even sixth form can equip us for real life, our clothing and freedom controlled. It’s also so hard for those who don’t feel comfortable as a girl and wish to change their name, teachers re… *(Oct 2022)* - **3/5** — what school is rlly like: I mean it's okay but they don't really care that much abt ur mental health. they pressure u to do it work and take the littlest things seriously *(May 2022)* ## Other schools in Colchester - [St Helena School](https://schoolbrowse.com/gb/colchester/st-helena-school-13387) — 1.8/5 (48 reviews) - [The Gilberd School](https://schoolbrowse.com/gb/colchester/the-gilberd-school-13369) — 1.5/5 (38 reviews) - [Philip Morant School and College](https://schoolbrowse.com/gb/colchester/philip-morant-school-and-college-20540) — 1.7/5 (22 reviews) - [Colchester Academy](https://schoolbrowse.com/gb/colchester/colchester-academy-11983) — 1.4/5 (19 reviews) - [Paxman Academy](https://schoolbrowse.com/gb/colchester/paxman-academy-20743) — 2.3/5 (13 reviews) - [The Thomas Lord Audley School](https://schoolbrowse.com/gb/colchester/the-thomas-lord-audley-school-13380) — 3.1/5 (12 reviews) --- Source: SchoolBrowse (https://schoolbrowse.com) — reviews and ratings are user-submitted by parents.
