## About

St Mary The Virgin C.I.W. Primary School is a Church in Wales voluntary aided primary school located in the Butetown area of Cardiff, near 5 North Church Street. The school serves a diverse, multicultural community historically known as Tiger Bay, one of the oldest multicultural areas in Britain. The current school site opened in 1970, continuing a legacy of over 100 years of education under the same name in the neighborhood. The school caters to children aged 3 to 11, with approximately 210 pupils enrolled in mixed ability classes. It emphasizes learning through first-hand experiences, leveraging its central Cardiff location close to cultural and historical landmarks such as Cardiff Castle and the Wales Millennium Centre. The school grounds are notable for their extensive outdoor space, including a community garden and a large field used for sports and play, which is uncommon for an inner-city school. Since 2017, the school has expanded from a single-form to a two-form entry to accommodate more students.
