The school traces its origins back to 1895 through the merger of earlier boys' and girls' high schools, with the current unified site established in 1973. It serves approximately 1,500 pupils, including a sixth form of around 370 students. The school is known for its strong academic achievements, diverse pupil intake, and commitment to Welsh language and culture, including success in Welsh learners' competitions at the Urdd National Eisteddfod. Facilities include a multi-purpose space for performances and additional classrooms added in a 2013 extension. Cardiff High School emphasizes a well-planned curriculum that builds systematically on pupils' knowledge and skills, with strong links to partner primary schools in the area. ## Recent parent reviews - **1/5** — BEST IN CARDIFF? PLEASE.: I feel like the enviroment is really toxic. All teachers care about is grades which would be valid if they weren’t horrible at teaching their subjects. Also, the students are cliquey and exclusive to new people in sixth form and not day ones. The heads of years are a completely different story, deserving of their own paragraph. Miss jones and Miss dilks target certain demographics to the point where it feels intentional…. They also gaslight you into thinking your problems are minute while in the… *(Jul 2025)* - **3/5** — Decent: its all good and all food overpriced tho and some teachers are just strict and targetting like for example when i was there was a teacher always making me sit at the front and get me in trouble for small things and yea 3-5 star this happened to me in year 7 *(May 2025)* - **1/5** — Cardiff high: My daughter attended a parent meeting today and she was told by an English teacher that after a whole term of teaching her daughter for 7 classes a week she had no idea who she was and when asked if she had tested the pupils to see where she should next go with the education program said yes she had tested them before Christmas but hadn’t marked them yet 😩😩😩 *(Jan 2025)* - **1/5** — It hasn’t changed!: My experience at this school was as a pupil from 1993 to 1998 so it’s a long time ago, but I’ve spoken to others who’ve been there more recently and it doesn’t seem to have changed a lot. I didn’t come from a feeder primary and found no effort was made to help me make friends, get to grips with a massive new place and all the emphasis was put high achievers, there was no help for people who struggled. Response to bullying was basically that it doesn’t exist here, so a blind eye was turned - the … *(Jan 2025)* - **1/5** — Dont recommend: Before anyone says shes talking nonsense hear me out if you wsnt to send your kids there be my guest if your hesitant and need second opinions stay,so a year ago my kid started this school in year 7,he at first liked the echool and it was a good bulding good food whatevet you wouod see in a regular school then slowley i saw my child wasnt learning jow i thought he was he was struggling on many subjects even tho he started as a very smart boy,the school d9nt tesch regular work your kids wont imrp… *(Jul 2024)* - **4/5** — Not that bad tbh.: Didn’t really like it at the time, but I guess everyone hates their school when their a teenager. Looking back on it now, it was actually pretty fun with some really nice teachers. They actually care about students + want them to do well. *(May 2023)* - **1/5** — fuck chs: i go to cardiff high and the teachers treat u like shit. there are some good ones but all the school care about is there reputation and barley the students mental health *(May 2023)* - **5/5** — Cardiff high.: I love Cardiff high however there’s a student toilet where more than half the doors don’t close properly or have a large gap where people can see through which is an invasion of our privacy. However, I am glad CCTV was taken out of the toilets!:) Other than that, the staff are supportive and kind, facilities are lovely and classrooms are comfortable. *(May 2023)* - **3/5** — Cardiff high school: I’m a student in Cardiff high school and I can say that the school is good but don’t always priorities our mental health and well being like they say they do. Firstly the school have made me and other fellow students extremely uncomfortable about our skirt lengths and even telling all of us we look like strippers which made me and my peers feeling sick to our stomachs. They also only care about there appearance, last year I got cyber bullied and I talked to them about it and they told me they co… *(May 2022)* - **2/5** — If Your Face Fits: As a former student from many decades ago I can see from other reviews nothing has changed at Cardiff High School. Grades and reputation go before duty of care to pupils. In fact teachers unashamedly split classes into those they favoured and those they didn’t. Students were told to leave the school before taking exams, GCSE and A Level if they were likely to achieve a grade of C or below. So, yes, the academic tables were good but THAT’S the reason why - as well as the majority of pupils were a… *(Jul 2021)* ## Other schools in Cardiff - [Whitchurch High School](https://schoolbrowse.com/gb/cardiff/whitchurch-high-school-25766) — 1.7/5 (27 reviews) - [St John Lloyd R.C.
