The school's facilities are excellent, too, and the extracurricular activities are a great way to keep the kids active and engaged. Our only criticism is that the school could do with a bit more funding to upgrade the playground equipment. *(Mar 2025)* - **4/5** — Room for Improvement: We moved to Accrington a year ago and were initially drawn to The Hollins because of its good Ofsted rating. While we appreciate the efforts of the teachers, particularly Mr. Patel in Year 6, we've found the school to be a bit disorganised at times and the homework load can be quite heavy. That said, the kids seem happy and the school has a great atmosphere, so we're hoping things will improve as we move forward. *(Jan 2025)* - **2/5** — PLEASE READ: The school overall looks amazing from the 'reviews' at first.Which is not the case at all.The teachers, don't get me started some are nice but the other just constantly pick on people, especially if they have adhd since 'its not real' according to them and the safe guarding staff they don't let you go to the toilet, there's fights almost everyday sometimes multiple a day,if you get sent out of the class room for chat about yourbehaviour you are screamed at and told you are useless, worthless and tha… *(Sep 2024)* - **1/5** — Really bad school: What a terrible school front desk staff are rude. There's no help from staff child makes one mistake and get punished two time I arranged a meeting and 15 months later still waiting taking my child out of that school and home schooling there's a lot of reviews for the holins school in Lancashire hyburn I don't recommend this school to anyone!!!!!!! *(Sep 2024)* - **1/5** — needs to get better: Awful get good teachers innit *(Jul 2024)* - **1/5** — The Hollins is an awful school for students: Homework rues and amounts are beyond ridiculous. Uniform rules are out of hand and punishments are harsh (introduction of 3h detentions on Friday for missing homework). It is possible to PAY YOURSELF OUT OF A DETENTION by buying equipment. Ways of teaching are very repetitive in most subjects often including work sheets and lbq tablet tasks (no real teaching just following questions). So called ‘standards’ are out of control with the introduction of ridiculous acronyms such as STEPS, LEADS and S… *(Jun 2024)* - **1/5** — the Hollins, in Accrington, an evaluated review.: school is terrible, the students are all mean and rude, expecially the higher years. the food is okay, alot of the meat is uncooked most of the time. the staff are amazing, and the pupils treat them like dirt. the bullying is horrendous, yet they have an anti-bullying policy. dont even bother reporting anything, because they never do anything. this school overall is a great learning environment with horrible surroundings. *(May 2024)* - **1/5** — Don't go to the hollins mate: Okay so someone legit got called a stripper by Mr Bridges, the pedo, also most the teachers generally are terrible like in all honesty how do half those teachers maintain a job, all the teachers ever do is yell when we ask questions even tho they don't explain properly. Like fr if ur gonna yell have a point. Also nobody learns anything cuz it's either stuff we already know or the subject is so boring no one is listening, they give out detentions for not having ur shirt tucked in like it's going … *(Jul 2023)* - **1/5** — HORRIBLE HOLLINS: The school is honestly so bad, I hate going there *(Jun 2023)* - **1/5** — DONT RECOMMED: DO NOT RECOMMEND !!!!! *(Jun 2023)* ## Other schools in Accrington - [Accrington St Christopher's Church of England High School](https://schoolbrowse.com/gb/accrington/accrington-st-christophers-church-of-england-high-school-12982) — 1.5/5 (38 reviews) - [Accrington Academy](https://schoolbrowse.com/gb/accrington/accrington-academy-11740) — 1.3/5 (11 reviews) - [Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Primary School, Church](https://schoolbrowse.com/gb/accrington/sacred-heart-roman-catholic-primary-school-church-8184) — 1.9/5 (7 reviews) - [Rhyddings](https://schoolbrowse.com/gb/accrington/rhyddings-22176) — 4.7/5 (4 reviews) - [Accrington Huncoat Primary School](https://schoolbrowse.com/gb/accrington/accrington-huncoat-primary-school-22174) — 4.7/5 (3 reviews) - [Oswaldtwistle School](https://schoolbrowse.com/gb/accrington/oswaldtwistle-school-11255) — 4.7/5 (3 reviews) --- Source: SchoolBrowse (https://schoolbrowse.com) — reviews and ratings are user-submitted by parents.
